ATG Alster-Touristik Gmbh

ATG Alster-Touristik GmbH

ATG Alster-Touristik GmbH is responsible for the design and construction of the hull and will operate the ship.

ATG is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Hamburger Hochbahn AG and offers tourist excursions on the Binnen- and Außenalster lakes as well as on the canals feeding into the Alster and the connecting channels to the Elbe. The Alster boats are the only large motor ships which run on the Alster lake.

The Alster is an inland lake in the centre of the city of Hamburg. It has an area of 185 ha and is an environmentally very sensitive body of water; it was for this reason that ATG already put the first passenger ship in the world to run on solar power into service in the year 2000.

With 450,000 passengers a year, mainly in the seven summer months, and income from the chartering of ships, ATG has an annual turnover of 4.5 million €. This is generated by 45 employees and a fleet of 18 ships.

Hamburger Hochbahn AG

Environmental protection and mitigation of climate change have been firmly integrated into the business strategy of the Hamburger Hochbahn AG for many years now. Every journey you make with our public transport instead of in your own car is a contribution to protecting the environment. It is our ambition to take a leading role in climate protection too. Ecologically friendly concepts are constantly being developed, tested and put into practice.

By acquiring innovative fuel cell technology we are not only investing in Hamburgs future, but also more broadly in the development of environmentally friendly public transport. HOCHBAHN has been accumulating experience with the operation of fuel cell powered buses since 1999 with the NEBUS (New Electric Bus) and since 2003 in the EU-supported CUTE (Clean Urban Transport for Europe) project and its successor HyFLEET:CUTE. Nine zero emission buses are meanwhile in service with HOCHBAHN. This is the biggest fleet of any operator worldwide, which has meanwhile driven more than 220 000 km in Hamburg and transported 800 000 passengers without any emissions.

Together with hySOLUTIONS, HOCHBAHN has assumed responsibility for the public relations activities of the Zemships project. HOCHBAHN set up hySOLUTIONS in 2005 and is the major shareholder of this GmbH (61%). hySOLUTIONS is intended to expand the use of hydrogen and fuel cell applications in Hamburg and to make the technology competitive in the market.

HOCHBAHN is Germanys second largest public transport company with over a million passengers who use it every day. More than 4300 employees, over 700 buses and 800 underground carriages make sure that Hamburg never stands still.

The HOCHBAHN Group in Hamburg includes, among other affiliates, ATG Alster-Touristik,  which offers tourist excursions on the Alster lake and HADAG, which takes passengers to destinations in the Port of Hamburg.
Since 2007, the HOCHBAHN subsidiary Benex has bundled the activities of HOCHBAHN outside Hamburg. To date, Benex has brought together four rail services in Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg as well as three bus companies in Kiel, Lübeck and Fulda.
